Message to the prospective students
【English and Japanese Literature in the Age of World Literature】
Our program welcomes aspiring scholars of fiction from across the globe.
We engage primarily with English-language literature, with a particular emphasis on English fiction, as well as Japanese fiction that has found a broad international readership.
We invite students to join us with a deep commitment to literary inquiry and sufficient proficiency in Japanese to participate fully in our lectures and discussions.

Themes |
My research focuses on authors who cross linguistic and national boundaries, with a particular emphasis on James Joyce and Haruki Murakami. We now live in an era in which it is possible to read and write across all languages. Within this context, I aim to explore new directions in the study of world literature in English and Japanese. Authors I am currently examining include Natsume Sōseki, Kazuo Ishiguro, and F. Scott Fitzgerald. |
